The Kiwanis Club of Geneva, NY and the Geneva High School Class of 2015 sponsored an election night ziti dinner at Geneva High School on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Kiwanis Club of Geneva, NY and the Geneva High School Class of 2015 Drug/Alcohol-Free Graduation Night Party.

Members from the Geneva Middle School Builders Club volunteered at the event.

9/19/14 Congratulations to Berni Kairys for being recognized at the Finger Lakes Kiwanis Passing of the Banner Event!

Ravenwood Golf Club, Victor, N.Y. -- Geneva Kiwanis Club Board Member and Geneva Middle School Builders Club Adviser Berni Kairys was recognized at the Finger Lakes Division of Kiwanis Passing of the Banner Event for her outstanding work with the Geneva Middle School Builders Club. Mrs. Kairys, a teacher at Geneva Middle School, has been a volunteer adviser to the Builders Club for over 10 years.

Builders Club is a “student-led” community service organization that operates under school regulations and draws its members from the student body.

With more than 46,000 adolescent members worldwide, the Builders Club provides students with opportunities to develop leadership, improve self-esteem, increase civic engagement and learn life skills through service. As students maneuver this “in-between stage” of life, Builders Club empowers them to be themselves, work together with friends and implement plans through action. Through Builders Club, students become leaders at school, in their community and in the world.

Finger Lakes, NY -- On Saturday, September 27, 2014, the Kiwanis Club of Geneva and the Finger Lakes Division of Kiwanis are hosting a used electronics recycling drop-off. Proceeds from the event will benefit Golisano Children's Hospital. The event will take place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the following locations:

Liberty Commons -- 789 Pre Emption Road, Geneva, NY
East View Mall (outside of Food Court) -- 7979 Pittsford-Victor Rd., Victor, NY
Town of Penfield Dept. of Public Works -- 1607 Jackson Rd., Penfield, NY
Town of Arcadia Highway Dept. -- 233 Blackmar St., Newark, NY

Acceptable Electronics Donations Include: Appliances, cables, CD-ROM drives, cellular phones, circuit boards, computer speakers, CPU’s, CRT monitors, docking stations, DVD players, fax machines, hard drives, keyboards, laptops, LCD monitors, mainframes, mice, microwaves, modems, PDAs, personal copiers, printers, processor chips, scanners, servers, speakers, tape and disc drives, telephones, terminals, television, UPS battery back-ups, VCR players, and MORE!

Unacceptable Electronics Include: Air Conditioners or other Freon containing appliances, ballasts, batteries and light bulbs.

All electronics are recycled by Ewaste Systems, Geneva, NY.

10/10/14 Kiwanis Club of Geneva, NY & Geneva Middle School Builders Club Charter Night

Geneva, N.Y. -- A charter night ceremony for the Kiwanis Club of Geneva, and the Geneva Middle School Builders Club, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 10, 2014 at the Vandervort Room of the Scandling Center at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, 300 Pulteney Street, Geneva, N.Y. This event will serve to reintroduce the Kiwanis Club to the Geneva community and provide an evening of fun for the children of the Builders Club.

There will be a social hour and cash bar from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and a buffet style dinner at 7:00 pm. Tickets cost $30.00 per person and $50.00 per couple. There is no charge for Builders Club members.

The focus of the Kiwanis Club of Geneva is to serve the community children. For example, Kiwanis established the first Geneva Little League program. This summer, the newly re-established Club was able to send three Geneva children to Kamp Kiwanis, a week long summer camp in Adirondack Park. The Club volunteered in Penn Yan to assist victims of a sudden flood that left many people displaced and homeless. The Club is also organizing a used electronics collection drive that will take place at Liberty Commons on Preemption Road in Geneva on Saturday, September 27, 2014. Proceeds from the drive will support Golisano Children’s Hospital. 

Charlie Rogers, former longtime member of Geneva Kiwanis interviewed about WWII experience

Boston, Massachusetts -- Charlie Rogers, a longtime member of the former Kiwanis Club of Geneva, NY prior to moving to Marlborough, Massachusetts, was recently interviewed for the Natick Veterans World War II Oral History Project in Boston.

Mr. Rogers, a native of Geneva, N.Y., joined the U.S. Army in December 1941, right after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Trained as an artillery officer, Rogers would become a pilot with the 44th Infantry Division, 7th Army, in France, Germany and Austria. In this capacity, Rogers would fly a Piper Cub into enemy territory with an observer to report on enemy troop movements, the location of armaments, and other logistical information.

Mr. Rogers flew about 120 missions, and was under near-constant enemy attack. Rogers’ medals and commendations include the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters.
